Samson....God or lucky charms
Oh my stars...I am always looking for fun new ways to show, share and teach the kiddos in Children's church...So I have decided to start sharing some of the smaller (I will share the larger too!) things we do to re-enforce our lesson for that week.
The Lesson...
Samson...and his strenght...was it his lucky hair or really GOD???
Judges 16
First we played a game.
Divide your class into equal teams. We are going to play a relay race. We had three teams. Give the first person on each team a lucky charm. It was in March that we did this lesson so the Dollar Store had just put their ST. Patricks Day stuff on sale and those items were the lucky charms...i.e...four leaf clover sunglasses, a green beaded necklace with tons of plastic shamrocks hanging off and a green headband with juggly green glittery balls on the top. The first person on the team puts on the lucky charm, runs to the end of the finish line (however long you choose to make it), pick up the barbells and do ten reps. Gently, put the barbells back down on the floor and run backwards to your team. Player one hands player two the lucky charm, player two puts on the lucky charm and runs to the finish line, picks up the barbells, does ten reps, gently puts them back on the ground, runs backwards back to their team, hands player three the lucky charm, player three puts on the lucky charm, runs to the end of the finish line, picks up the barbells....you get the picture? First team finishes wins! Oh, and did I tell you the barbells are made with 2 - 11" black latex balloons and a dowel rod. Blow the balloons up and tie one onto each in of the dowel rod. Dowel rods can be purchased in the craft deptement for around .97 and the balloons can be purchased in a package for $1.25. I really think that I spent .25 for each of the lucky charms. Candy is always a good prize, or pencils, plastic animals..the kids really don't care what they win as long as they get a prize.
After the game is over, then you ask them, "Did the other team win because their lucky charm was more powerful than the other teams?"
"Do you think that the lucky charms really worked?"
"I was really impressed that all of you were able to lift those heavy barbells!" The children should tell you that they really were not heavy.
Now say, "Well, I am going to tell you about a VERY strong man who had something that made him very strong!"
You should have read Judges 14 - 16 before class, tell the class about Samson and his strenght, but from the Bible, read chapter 16. After you have read the chapter, ask the children:
"Why was Samson strong?"
"If I grow my hair long, will I be strong?"
"Why not?"
God loved Samson and He blessed Samson, but God also has givin us the right to choose what we want to do, listen to Him or disobey. God chose to give Samson his strenght to protect the Iseralite nation, but Samson disobeyed God several differant ways. When we do something wrong that is called SIN. Have you ever sinned? or did anything wrong? Did you get caught? What kind of punishment did you get from your parents for disobeying? When we sin that really hurts God. God is prefect, and because we sin, we are not prefect. It is like God is on one team and we are on the other, and when we die, to get to go to heaven, we have to be on God's team and there was no way for us to get to be on God's team. UNTIL...Jesus came! Jesus is God's son, and Jesus said, "Father, I know that You love them and You really want them on Our team, so I will take their punishment" The Bible tells us in Romans that if we believe in our heart and confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and that God raised him from the dead, WE WILL BE SAVED.
At this point you ask your students to bow their heads and close their eyes. Pray out loud, asking God to touch hearts and lives today. If there is anyone here today who has never accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior and want to today, just have them rise their hands, with everyone else still bowing their heads and their eyes closed." If you have a student who wants to ask Christ into their life DO NOT PUT THEM OFF! Take that student off to the side, get our Bible ready, go through the Romans Road, lead them in prayer and then take them to our pastor!
Hope this helps! If you guys like this idea and comment, I will post more things that we do at the Rector First Baptist Church!
