Oh my stars....Whatta night!
The above pictures are an object lesson about the reaction our words have and the powerful effects our words have, our prayers mixed with praising our LORD causes reactions. BIG reactions!
Next we cooked. I love cooking and I love getting this age group excited about cooking too. Crescent rolls, marshmallows, butter, and cinnamon sugar are the ingredients for these Resurrection Rolls. The crescent roll are the tomb, the marshmallows are Jesus, the butter is the blood that covered Jesus when He gave His life for us and the cinnamon sugar are the spices the ladies covered Jesus in at the tomb. Dip the marshmallow in the butter, place on the crescent roll, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, roll up, of couse my smart 6th graders did their own thing and they turned out the best, they rolled the marshmallow covered with the crescent up like a ball!! Prefect!! Better than the rest, and then bake @ 350 until light brown. Let them cool and then cut open. There is no marshmallow!! Just like the tomb on Easter morning, NO JESUS!! Read the Easter Story to the children while the crescents are baking.
What is a lock in without games?? Youth group member and Senior Daniel White was in charge of the games for the evening and as you can see they were FUN!!! Daniel, Kirk, Nick and Seth were awesome!!
We did worksheets about the Lord's Prayer.
More games.
We made homemade potpourri. In Rev 5:7-8, the Bible tells us that the 24 elders handed the LORD a gold bowl filled with incense which are our prayers. The ladies of our church dried flowers and orange peels and bought us whole cloves and cinnamon sticks. I dried apples, oranges and grapefruits. Thanks to Jan Hill and Patsy Hardin for making sure we had plenty of items for our potpurri! Shannon and her boys collected pinecones, we used seashells, twigs and rocks to make beautiful homemade potpourri.
More games!!!!
Making potpourri!
Have you ever heard of the NEWLYWED game?? Well, we played the FRIENDSHIP game!! Fun fun!
We made centerpieces that have the Lord's Prayer on them using old coffee cans donated by Jane and Marvin Gatewood, covered them with colorful contact paper, glued the Lord's Prayer on, filled with dried beans, and arranged beauitful flowers donated by Debbie Robinson. Sandy and Jerry Lawernce stopped by earlier in the evening to help me cut the silk bushes apart so that the children could pick out their favorite flowers.
I KNOW! NO sleeping at lock-ins!! BUT they were tried! We watched a movie and took a little break!
We ended in prayer! Thanking our Father for our wonderful fun-filled evening!
